"the licensing of boats in Deep Bay should produce a considerable sum in

revenue and be of much use in suppressing piracy.

(7) One new steam launch $10,000.- On the 1st August 1900 the Acteng Harbour

Master reported that on inspecting the 3 Harbour Department Launches

"Lily", "Daisy" & "Hilda", he found that it would be necessary to replace

them shortly as they were very old and worn, having been built in 1884,

1884, & 1882 respectively. Accordingly a sum of $10,000 was placed on the

Estimates for 1901, and a new launch is in course of construction. A fur-

ther sum of $10,000 is placed on the 1902 Estimates under the heading

Harbour Master's Department, Other Charges, and a sum of $10000. under

Government Marine Surveyor, Other Charges, to provide for the building

of the two remaining launches to take the place of the old ones which are

in a very unsatisfactory condition.

(8). ONE TYPEWRITER $300:- This is required to expedite theclerical work in

the Harbour Office which is constantly increasing.
